Rubbing alcohol will discolor a black, hard rubber mouthpiece. Denatured
alcohol will not. They are two very different substances. One is used as an
antiseptic and the other as a cleaner for ovens, rusty bits of metal, and, of
course . . . clarinet mouthpieces.
