them?>>>

Lynn--

If you look through the archives, you'll see lots of comments on the Legere
reeds. Many people like them. I've bought a handful in different
strengths, in the hope that I could get too liking them . . . but alas, I'm
afraid that I much prefer the cane reeds. To me, the Legeres sound a bit
weird.

I have had better luck using Fibrecells, particularly on the larger
instruments (i.e., tenor saxophone). Larey McDaniel of the Seattle
Symphony uses Fibrecells on his bass clarinet, and sounds great. I think
the sound is a bit more cane-like than the Legeres. Unfortunately for me, I
find the Medium too soft and the Medium-hard too hard, so for Bb/A clarinet
I'm back to the cane reeds.

I have used the Legeres in the pit for musicals where a lot of doubling is
called for. One of the great advantages of plastic reeds is that you can
pick up the horn and play the reed when it's dry -- necessary in some books.
A little funkiness in the tone is much more acceptable in that context
(depending on the show, of course).
