Well, public compliments to Sean for what I heard last night at the Met:
the final performance of the season of Shostakovitch's Lady Macbeth of
Mtsensk. No kidding that the Eb is prominent among the woodwinds: he and
Jim Ognibene on the bass (GIMME!) were just superb, as indeed was the
entire orchestra. It seems to my ears a brutally difficult score, and
everyone was magnificent. My respect for Valery Gergiev grows day by
day. Sean, if you're playing Saturday night in the Boheme I'm seeing, it
will be a nice change of pace:-).
