I couldn't agree more. I think that while mouthpiece/ligature/reed
combinations are particularly personal, clarinets are as well. I know that
I wouldn't trade my R13 for anything, but my co-principal in the youth
orchestra swears by her Selmer Series 10. The third member of our section
wouldn't ever give his LeBlanc Esprit up. The funny thing is that although
we're all playing very different instruments, we manage to get a great
blended sound which, if we really try, can sound like one clarinet. I dread
the day when clarinets become like clothes - you're not "cool" unless you
have a particular label!

BTW, is there anyone who can suggest how playing in a normal, ordinary
orchestra concert would have given me an incredibly sore, stiff neck and
back? I played in a concert on Wednesday night (Paganini Violin Concerto,
among other things - we had some incredible young soloists visiting from The
Negri Violin School of Florence) then woke up on Thursday morning almost
unable to move my head. A physio visit has helped sort it out, but I'm
really wondering how playing could have caused it. I hadn't done anything
else that could possibly have hurt my back. I'm wondering if it's the bass
that did it - I haven't been doing a lot of bass playing, but it's never
happened before. Anybody else ever had this happen?

TIA
Anna
