The only synthetic reed I have found that is any good
at all for clarinet is the Legere Reed. The feeling in
the mouth is softer than a real reed. They are
consistent, blow well and a very nice upper register.
However... there is no replacing the feeling of
finding that one ohhhhh so wonderful real cane reed.
The one you hope will never die... but does. It's a
religious thing and not to be taken lightly... well...
except after some counseling and group sessions.
