Subj: [kl] Junior High MTNA Competition
Date: Thu, 30 Mar 2000 18:05:22 -0500

Well, it looks like I will have a clarinet student to enter in the MTNA sponsored junior high competitions this year.
Her parents are very supportive and ready to do this. I'm now faced with picking her program. She needs three pieces
from three different time periods. They do list Impressionistic and Contemporary as two separate periods.

She is working on some Lefevre Sonatas now, and I'm sure we will use one of those (or at least a portion). Only one
piece is required to be played from memory. She has already memorized movements of the Sonatas. She is only in 6th
grade now, but will be in 7th in the fall, which makes her in her first year of eligibility.

Any suggestions for repertoire? They will be allowed 20 minutes playing time at the audition. It's OK if the music is
more or less than 20 minutes in total.

I must admit that I'm pretty excited, too. To have such a capable, hard-working, musical 6th grader is neat!
