Subj: [kl] Mahler' s 9th symphony

Dear list:

I need someone's advise on playing.

I play in an amateur orchestra in Japan and our orchestra
chose Mahler's 9th symphony for the next concert.

I was surprised at the range of clarinet that Mahler used.
He wrote "Eb" note down beyond the range in the 3rd movement
on the clarinet part. Fortunately, the composer chose "Bb"
clarinet at that moment, it is possible to play that note
with "A" clarinet. But it will affect on the resonance and
fingering of parts before and after the note, so I think
it should be avoided if possible.

Now, what I would like to know is this:
When one plays the part, what he should do? Change the
instrument and transcribe it for "A" clarinet? Or is there
any other ways? Please advise me on it.

Thanks, and sorry for my unclear English.
