These days, they actually do carry some of the beginning line instruments.
I do not know the full story about why they aren't "authorized," but I know
there was a big stink a couple years ago between Bob and Buffet. The level
of the horns they carry now are amongst the best I have ever seen. Because
they now order their horns from a shop in Germany and are hand-picked, they
are better than when they were "authorized." I'll continue buying from
them.
