I am a teacher in Israel, and I did not find any books that would appeal
to my students, so I wrote it! One beginner beginner, and then one for
I started writing the lessons for each student individually, filing
them under each lesson, 1,2, and so on, until I found that each student
more or less follows the same progression. I heavily supplement with
books that the students like to play, so I have them buy (for the
Israeli market) the Rabbi Shlomo Carlebach song book, and a Hebrew
Klezmer book. I have graded the songs in each book according to level
for each lesson. The song books are not written for clarinet, but do
have the guitar and piano chords. I have to teach how to transpose
early so my students can play with friends who play guitar or piano, but
I think it all works out for the best. I have not as of yet looked for
a publisher for my work, but if there is enough interest, I will do so.
I have even trained one street player who guards the Central Bus Station
in Jerusalem!
