FWIW, Mark, some services (such as the one I use) strip <CR>s in an
unpredictable fashion, and they condense two blanks down to one, and
they totally mess up any formatting that you attempt -- such as
indenting quoted lines, etc. Therefore you have to live with whatever
'eficiency measures' that the service adopts.
I've discovered that "<><>" slips through this service unaltered,
which is why I use it. But on short lines, sometimes it choose to
prepend a short line with 5 or 6 blanks.
(We've already talked about how this service doesn't accept web
sites that use Adobe <whatever-its-name-is>. )
