The way I read that which was posted by Mr. Kloc is simply "buyer beware,"
and that's good advice for anyone purchasing anything.

Years ago there was a guy in southern California who sold cameras,
microscopes and other optical instruments. He was unable to get a license
to sell Zeiss products. Being fluent in German he began what became a
several-times-a-year ritual: he went to Germany, cultivated a number of
mutual opportunities for profit among licensed Zeiss sales people and
bought as low as he could find. He imported that which he purchased into
the U.S., sold his wares at a sizeable discount from what people had to pay
to licensed dealers, made a good profit, deducted the cost of all of his
trips from his income tax, built up a loyal clientele and personally stood
behind everything he sold. His prices were good and people trusted him.

It seems to me that the same thing must be going on all the time with
Buffet Clarinets (and a lot of other things), but that doesn't diminish the
importance of "buyer beware."
