"Consumer items"... is that is what has become of the art of playing an
instrument? Just as we have so many fine players who retire to teaching,
no chair, and even the ghastly club date, or wedding gig, forced to play
jazz (not so bad:), when they had a chance to sparkle just as brightly as
some of the big names...

Again consumerism gets in the way in the form of the recording industry.

These things are all fine and the politics involved are mainly to protect a
commercial industry while relieving some restrictions on the company to put
forth an honorable warranty which speaks of manufacturing standards and
integrity to the consumer.

Buffet should have a warranty that meets or exceeds the expectations of its
name.
Maybe this is why so many crack and a way around it. They are following the
pack to their advantage. The crack-pack.

I feel that legally it is even a weak leg to stand on. The word
manufacturer's warranty implies something and over he years the law has
allowed exclusions to meet lower standards. In my day warranty and
guarantee meant something different. If my new Buffet, Selmer, or Leblanc
cracked or chipped I would take action.

A warranty is a warranty. A great instrument will never crack so long as it
is made great and well maintained, and stored, and periodically oiled and
humidified when and where needed.

There is no excuse for an instrument of this standard cracking. Pining is
not an option either. A crack is like a broken heart which leaves a scar. I
could never get over it.

All I could say is like a good car (in the Lexus mark pointed out) keep
maintenance records...
