The warranty offered by Buffet is pretty much industry standard for just about all consumer items I know of. If you buy consumer electronics, cameras, computers, etc. from other than an authorized dealer there is no warranty coverage (they'll state "original owner" and "authorized dealer"). Used equipment is seldom covered by warranty unless a provision is made for transfer of the warranty. That provision may include both the re-registration and payment of a fee.
My Yamaha bass guitar bought in Japan was even more restrictive - it was only covered by warranty while I resided in Japan. My Seilo watch purchased in Japan had the exact same type of warranty - when it stopped working here in the US, while still covered by a warranty, I had to pay for the repair.
