In the recent discussion about using the list as a forum for personal gain
something was mentioned that made me think some of my postings might have
been considered advertising. Yes, I often send people to one or another
pages of my Index in search of a site they're asking about. It is much
quicker than going back to the site and including the specific URL. It may
also be that another site in the section will also be of interest. Yes,
I'm also one that says "Here's the dictionary- look it up!" I would like
everyone to know though that my site is _not_ primarily commercial. Yes, I
do the Amazon Associate thing so I get a percentage from books/recordings
ordered through links from my site. I do not regularly direct people there
because I do consider that an advertisement. I am fortunate in that the
revenues so produced have covered my sponser fees and a couple pizzas.
That isn't why I put the site together in the first place. I don't get
advertising fees from anyone and never expect to be compensated for my
work. I enjoy the people I've "met" through the project and find it a
great resource for me when I'm looking for something. Perhaps I'm being
paranoid but I wanted to clear the air in case I was part of what someone
perceived as the problem.
