For a week now I have been enchanted by practicing and playing along with
my new MIDI file of Beethoven's Opus 16 Quintet for winds and piano.

I agree, if somewhat ruefully, with "The Beethoven Companion," that "It is
an inferior work to its begetter (Mozart's K.452 Quintet), but its neglect
is certainly not justified." The author of that commentary also suggests
that Op. 16 is more a piano solo with wind accompaniment and I have to
admit there is more than a seed of truth there.

Still, the piano part is so fabulous and the contrast between piano and
winds so appealing that each evening I play through it, finding little
sequencing errors here and there as I go, and feel so lucky that these
special members of my Sili(con) Symphony were once again able to join me.
Alas, at the end of every rehearsal I return to my same old arrogance:
"Back into the box, peasants!"

All that having been said, I think you folks are going to LOVE it. The
world premier MIDI Karaoke performance will take place in the usual place
at 3pm this afternoon, PST to, I fully anticipate, the same enthusiastic
and adoring audience (I've actually had some live ones recently. Maybe
there's a future for chamber music!).

The .MUS and MIDI files will be released on my Web page sometime later in
the early evening. Happy playing all!

Oliver
