Subj: [kl] Kudos and a footnote!!
Date: Thu, 16 Mar 2000 16:34:31 -0500

Today, I got in the mail the final camera ready copy of an article that
Bob Levin and I coauthored, the title of which is "Mozart's deliberate
use of incorrect key signatures for clarinets." The article (which some
of the members of this list including Tony Pay have already seen) will
appear in the Mozart Jahrbuch, 1998 edition (and you are not permitted
to ask my why the 1998 edition is being printed in 2000 - that's secret
stuff).

In the article is a lengthy discussion about the impact of key signature
limitations for early clarinets with a footnote that has to be about
half a page long. And at the end of the footnote (which must be read by
a small boy sitting at your feet) appears the following text:

"The authors are indebted to the Internet electronic mailing list known
as 'KLARINET' for helpful responses to inquiries about period clarinets
in the mid-to-late 18th century."

Let's face it guys, I am giving this list some needed class. And you
all owe me a beer (or better) when I pass through your towns on my
upcoming cross-country trip. Signs by the side of the road saying
"Leeson should be made King" will be considered sufficient obeisance.

Autographed copies of this article will cost $8.50 because that is all I
can afford to pay you.
