I think that the idea that the Mark VII's are inferior came from the fact
that the tone is somewhat darker (interpret as you wish) and the mechanism a
bit heavier. Many jazzers and doublers did not like the horn, but on the
other hand, I have known many classical players who bought them and would
not part with them. Many of these are good horns and since they don't have
the mystique of the VI's you can get them for a really good price. Check
with some of the vintage sax shops to see what they are selling them for.
