Interesting. She crossed my mind only fleetingly.
I knew of her distinction re: a woman in a principal
position, but your categorization of her as a "star"
among the ranks of Drucker, Gigliotti, Shifrin, Cohen,
Opperman, and perhaps Marcellus and Mazzeo (to think
posthumously as well) seems a little off. No disre-
spect intended of course, but to my mind, one quality
of a "major" "star" player would be the level of their
exposure. Everybody knows who she is, naturally, but
the number of other names that came up, before hers
was finally mentioned, really points to how subject-
ive the criteria really are. How do we define a
"REALLY BIG STAR" among clarinetists?
