Yes Floyd, he was co-principal in the San Francisco Symphony along with the
then other principal, Phil Fath (who is now principal of the SF. Opera
Orchestra).

I remember playing many principal parts while in the SF. Symphony that were
signed by him with the initials RM. There were also several stories about him
and his playing that were told to me by SF. Symphony musicians that had
played with him.

The conductor Joseph Krips brought in several co-principal woodwinds at that
time - a time when a conductor was allowed to do those sorts of things when
there was actually no such "co" principal position in the orchestra - one of
whom was the incomparable oboist Marc Lifschey who had just been fired by
Szell in Cleveland.
