Has any one owning an R13 Bb had an opportunity to compare Moennig barrels made by Buffet, Muncy, Accubore and others as to relative difference may
existbetween barrels using the same mpc/reed setup? If so, I would be interested in
knowing what your observations were in terms of evenness of scale, facility
ofaltissimo or anything you've noted. >>

Don......way more than I can put in a short e-mail, and I don't have time right ow for a long one..

I purchased a Buffet "Moennig" barrel from IMS last spring, picked it out of seventeen,

This one is good FOR ME. Tunes well, nice focus to the tone. Helped stabilize my throat tones and bring down the sharp B, and C above the staff. Good barrel. They were not all the same quality.....but what is?

I have a Eddie Daniels 65 mm Accubore barrel right here. Tremendous FOCUS and projection, without a hint of unnecessary brilliance or brightness. I like the feeling of MASS if gives....it seems as if it adds control .... this is just an impression, though...

To my ears....it seems to lack something of the quality of the sound I get from the Buffet/Moennig.....but my wife, who is a skilled flutist, and has better ears than I do, says there is little difference.

The Accubore tunes very well. Of course, that depends on the mouthpiece....

I tried a Chadash barrel a few weeks ago....very nice....not fantastically better....

I WANT to try a Fobes.....Clark is a fanatic with his measurements...and he puts in a hard rubber liner in his barrels to guard against changes due to moisture and humidity...This is a VERY good idea...

Oh....this winter...in the coldest (hence least humid indoor environment) the Moennig really suffered in tone. NOw that the weather is warmer, it's back to where it was.

I don't know if this helps you or not....if you have specific question....pls ask on the list, or e-mail directly.

Walter
