Dr. Ron Monsen writes:

I have a copy of, "A Clarinetist's Notebook, Vol. I, Care and Repair" by
Robert Schmidt, which is probably the work to which you refer. It is
marked, "Copyright 1971 Robert Schmidt and Revised 1978" , but lists no
publisher. My copy was purchased about 5 years ago from:

SHALL-u-mo Publications
P. O. Box 26824
Rochester, NY 14626

SHALL-u-mo's literature gives the following description of the Schmidt
book:

A very complete manual for care and repair of clarinets (152 pp. 8-1/1 x
11"). Includes pertinent comments regarding bore oiling, cold weather
treatment, break-in procedures, required tools and detailed descriptions
with photos of all major and minor repairs from simple key bending to the
complex pinning of cracks.

Also included is a section on INTONATION which covers the influences of
bore dimensions, tone-hole size and flare, pad height, and bell, barrel and
mouthpiece dimensions. Preventative maintenance is discussed in
considerable depth.

The price list I have, which is probably 5 years old, lists the book for
$14.95
