I have a friend who "did time" in Broadway pits. He told me that one of
the reasons that so much of that Broadway crap is written in such hideous
keys was to accomodate some dumb singer's lousy vocal range in the original
version. As a result, pit players are condemned forever to play all those
#'s & b's.
