In fact sometimes I'd rather play in seven sharps than change to the
required A clarinet! (Only when Dan Leeson isn't looking of course!!) In
the pit in particular, sometimes transposition is a better option than a
cold clarinet, both for pitch and potential cracking issues.

I'd like to know which version of the Messiah you're playing, so that I
can hide it from our Music Director. If they ever find it here, it will
ruin my standing December weekend off!! This is one instance where I'm
all for authenticity, since Handel didn't include the clarinet. (I know,
