This (something similar) I have also seen on oboes but I have always
dreaded them. I believe the Eb and Bb Sop. Clarinet Fitting (never seen a
C) were the same size (pehaps the Bass and Alto were the same size-at least
the ferule and retainer part. (who knows) gis woulsd mean all you would
have to do is drill out the proper size for the actual vent tube you were
using. But the circular screw had a hole in it for the vent tube. I cant
recall if there was a threaded nickel silver insert but I am sure there was
because if you have ever removed the screw-in posts you know grenadilla
doesn't like beihng screwed repeatedly.
I always wanted to make an *exponantially flared vent tube like in their
contemporary Conn Tenor 10M Sax Octave vent. But better. The pad would fit
inside the tube. Probably be a delay in the jump. So despite the air not
buzzing a column into the pad and causeing that buzz you might have a
slower jump.. Have yo try it.
*That one cannot be patd. Because you heard it here first. It's public info
now.
My unapplied register key will solve that problem and others. w or w/o the
flared tube.
