Subj: [kl] "Screwcap Vent" Re: [kl] Interesting item on eBay web site

I believe that he was reffering to a specific type of vent which I had on
my late 40's Selmer. An octave vent which used a special tool to remove. I
cannot see that drawing very well. But if it is what I believe it is, this
was a large dome-shaped vent fitting with pinholes on either side for
removal and a special tool is used for this as it was made for selmers of
various sizes. This was especially useful when you had to reseal the vent
tube and tighten it back up. Stuck swab (really stuck). Or changing vent
diameters or lengths. I always called it a screwcap vent but there was
another name for it "slang" also.

I had lots of fun with mine as I made a slightly shorter vent with a larget
bore and got a nice clear Bb using the reg key when the side key fingerings
were difficult in passages. I invented a better register key by the way. I
have no patent though so it is moot.

Speaking of selmer does anyone have a mispelled selmer item?

Anyone can go into the Library of Congress USPTO and make copies then sell
them. It's a good idea for someone to publish a book on musical patents in
US, UK and other places.

Would be very educational...
