Is easy to understand that you love to play the Bass part. But, try to =
see the other side of the coin:
You already leraned a lot of the Bass part and your friend don't;
You now have an opportunity to learn the Eb parts and, as a =
co-principal, the 1st clarinet parts - do it.
That kind of orchestra have to contribute to your future giving you the =
opportunity to learn all positions and, belive me, play second, Eb, bass =
and 1st are diferent ways to play.
Enjoy the opportunity you have. I am not saying to you to forget the =
bass parts - just give you and your friend a chance for a new =
chalenges!!!

Good lucky

Fernando

I've just been made co-principal of the youth orchestra I play in, =
and with
this has come a rather difficult situation. For three years I've =
been doing
all the bass clarinet work, and now one of the other players has =
said that
he wants to do it. I really don't want to give it up, because I =
enjoy bass
playing such a lot, but can I be both co-principal and bass player? =
I
should also say that I've played bass professionally, and the guy =
that wants
to take over from me has never played bass in his life. Also, my
co-principal is the Eb player for the orchestra, and if there's =
saxophone
work to be done, it'll be one of the two of us who does it, as =
neither of
the other two are saxophonists. Should I give the bass up, or =
should I put
my case to the conductor - I don't want to give it up, I am the =
established
player and, and I realise this may sound slightly pretentious, why =
take it
away from someone who can play it reasonably well and give it to =
someone
who's never played it? What do I do?
=20
Thanks
Anna
