Jonathan Cohler sought advice:

<<<We are getting ready to purchase a new Eb clarinet at one of the colleges
where I teach and I would like some advice on what would be the best choice
given that the primary concerns are:

1. Intonation
2. Quality>>>

On the Eb subject, I've voted with my feet in the Buffet direction. I use a
Buffet R-13 that I selected out of a whole bunch of Buffets, Selmers &
Leblancs, using a stack of mouthpieces, reeds and a tuner. The primary
factor in my choice ended up being intonation -- while all were, well,
"interesting," the Buffet was closer to an even-tempered scale than the
others.

If you decide to go the Buffet route, I would urge you to also try a Chadash
barrel. At least with the mouthpieces I have been using, the intonation
characteristics are much more even.
