Fred......YA clean it, AND the mouthpiece first!!!! Otherwise....yuck.

By the way, those of you who have read my reed making book will remember the
section on breaking in a reed. One of the old time tricks, was to bind the
reed to the mouthpiece, using the string ligature, and let it dry on the
mouthpiece. This lets the reed adapt to the facing of the mouthpiece.

It's a great trick...try it sometime....
