I think the problem here is with the word fun. Fun is diversion,
entertainment. Satisfaction, accomplishment, work don't carry the sense
of enjoyment.
I am not finding a word that will convey both.

Where the sense of the bumper-sticker, "A bad day fishing is better than
a good day at work" is no longer true.

Superstition has the sense of not based in reality. but is about beliefs
or actions, not objects.
How about: fetish, amulet, mascot, juju, talisman or *charm* in the
sense of an object worn or cherished to ward off evil or attract good
fortune.

My preference would be for amulet or talisman.
