----Brass players not getting into 'gadgets'?

i've heard players of brass instruments talk about -- mouthpieces,
finishes, mute varieties. They just don't get to gadget with keys and
reeds. What type of material makes the best 'pad' on a spit valve.
For trumpets, there is variety of instruments, flugelhorn, piccolo
trumpet (in different keys), 'regular' trumpets in various keys.
Trombones? , double trigger option, different slide lubricants.
I've heard horn players discuss different kinds of string to use on
valves.

----For the interest on this klarinet list?
I think gadgets are easier to talk about, and interest many people on
this list.

I enjoy getting to know more about varieties of equipment. But i am not
a gear person because i can take an interest or not.

In my own set-ups, i haven't made any pay-for-equipment-changes in 10 or
more years.

My stronger interests are in analogies, ways to approach problems,
priorities, attitudes.

The reminder to avoid unconciously predjucing the results in "try it and
see."
(please excuse spelling errors, the spell check data files disappeared).

i think i have fallen in love with the exchange here...
the varied, interesting, exciting, exasperating, humorous, serious,
educated, narrow, weird and obvious opinions and information that goes
thru this medium.
