Dear Jim:
Funny you should ask. I am in the midst of doing "The Sound of Music" right
now. Strings are absolutely necessary, but you can get away with only six or
seven. Other than that, we have two flutes, two clarinets, one oboe, one
bassoon, two trumpets, one trombone, and two horns and drumset. I have been
doing many shows in the past several years and I find this TSOM to be about
the easiest I have done.
The orchestra came together much more quickly than it usually does. I have
done Follies, West Side Story, Guys and Dolls, Carousel, and several others,
and this really is the easiest.
Please let me know if you have any other specific questions and I will try
to answer them ASAP.
