We are getting ready to purchase a new Eb clarinet at one of the colleges
where I teach and I would like some advice on what would be the best choice
given that the primary concerns are:
1. Intonation
2. Quality >>
My eefer is a Buffet R13, purchased mid 70's new.
I got lucky. Bright sparkling **** crackling *** tone quality. AND a scale
that is very much in tune with itself.
I had to invent my own fingerings for altissimo F#, G, and G#. Sometimes I
hit the sliver keys (Last year, playing El Salon Mexico, I had to block the
RH sliver key, I hit it so many times in rehearsal it became a joke in the
orchestra.)
Other than those two things, my eefer is the best clarinet I own, or have
ever played. I haven't tested eefers in 20 years, but I can tell you, I would
start with Buffet.
I have had many offers to buy my eefer....but....to paraphrase the National
Rifle Association .......they'll have to pry it from my cold dead hands"
