I'm suffering from conflicting information.

When music is transferred from a computer to a CD, is it done as a WAV file
or as a MP3 file -- or something else, entirely?

I have some old recordings, going back as far as my junior recital, that I
want to put on CDs for archival purposes. I've been told to copy them to
disk as WAV files. Others have told me I need to convert the WAV files into
MP3 files before I put them on CD.

Can someone knowledgable suggest the correct procedure?
