Subj: [kl] Ligature scratches

I'm not sure if this should be under ligature or the English bash thread.
<g>

Years ago, when I was studying (and playing regularly) a ligature that had
the screws on top was referred to as a "reverse ligature." After all this
time of reading about "inverted ligatures" and wondering how the %&^% you
get a ligature that has been turned upside down to fit a mouthpiece,
suddenly, from Mr. Galper's message, a cloud lifted from my mind and I
understand what's being discussed.

I don't know whether dedicated "inverted ligatures" had not been invented in
the late fifties, or whether my teachers didn't bother with them. From time
to time, he would tell me to try turning the ligature around to see how it
would change my sound.

>I then cut this blob of tape in two and stuck each half under the metal
>that is under the screws (for an inverted ligature.)
