In terms of flexibility, I've found that I have an easier time slurring
wide leaps upward on an inverted Bonade than on a standard one. Slurring
downward, there doesn't seem to be a noticable difference for me. With a
plain band standard ligature, slurs upward and downward seem more
difficult. The standard Bonade sound gives me a bigger, more solid
sound; one with a little more presence. I also feel like I have more
control over the sound with one of these.
I would try several different types, and see for yourself which ones you
prefer. If possible, try them in a fairly large room, since what works
in a small room won't necessarily work for you in a concert hall. (This
is a good idea whenever you are trying out equipment. Remember, you
won't be playing many concerts in an 8x8 concrete practice room.)
