David,

In some respects I agree with this viewpoint. I have one of all the above,
and I could play a concert on any one of them without anybody noticing the
different except me. Secondly, it is also possiblem that I will use a
particular ligature for a particular effect.

For example, on my bass, if I have something that must cut through a tutti
section, and is fairly athletic, I'll favor my old nickel silver ligature.
Same, if I want that "gruff" sound, as in the "Rite of Spring".

If the passage is soft, lightly scored, and "atmospheric" rather than
boisterous, I'll use the Rover. Some of the bass solos in Sigfried or Tristan
fall into this second category, were you want the most (here we go again,
another meaningless adjective) "liquid" tone.

Again, I'm interested in the "why". To say whatever works.....or , if it
works for you....communuicates no information, and actually ends
communication.

If we want to advance our art, lets share specific information, or at least
the reasons for our opinions.

For the same reason, I won't take a prescription if the Doctor just says "Oh,
It's a little something to make you better." BS, Doc, tell me what it is, how
it works, why this particular drug, and other side effects, of forget it.

We tend to prescribe on here....Let's add some information and/or background,
or not bother. OK?
