I agree with your position on this, Dan.

Neil's note advances the same weak arguments that were recently used on the
Trumpet list by a college senior (!) who was taken to task for saying that
he needed information because he had "to right some program notes" for his
senior recital. He claimed that as a performing musician, it wasn't
important that he use proper English, and several others chimed in with this
"errors in the name of individualism" stuff. Sorry, but errors like we're
discussing here don't point up a person's individualism, they point up
his/her lack of education and general sloppiness.

I occasionally make typing or spelling errors, but I use spell-check on
every message I send and every document I type. Still, an occasional error
creeps through, usually because in mis-spelling one word I sometimes spell
another word correctly. I had to re-print a batch of sheet music covers
because they said that "Bayside Music Press publishes music for a variety of
wined instruments." I sometimes think we publish for wined players, but not
wined instruments. :-)
