Actually, I think you are to be congratulated....what else should a bass
clarinet in the clarion register sound like?

Vandoren can make a decent bass mouthpiece. I have a B44 (refaced years ago
by Elmer Aiello) that I don't play on much anymore but will probably never
let slip from between my fingers.

The B45 is pretty open for my tastes, but hey whatever works for you....

Try Vandoren reeds 3 or 31/2, or some of the new Grand Concert bass reeds.
Tenor sax reeds work, because of the same length and width....but seldom have
enough spine for the industrial strength stuff.

For example, I had a brief session with Lawrie Bloom (Chicago Symphony)
recently. he has a wonderful great big tone, no fuzziness, clear.......and
great facility all over the instrument........

I believe he told me he uses Vandoren 4's........

There is a lesson to be learned here folks.
