I am not sure if you all remember my questions about purchasing a used
Boozie Hawkes? Well, I finally got my hands on it. It seems to be in fa=
ir
shape, needs oiling, has a good tone. The series # is 2-22. The shop
owner
is asking $549.00, but said he would give me a better deal on it.

>>> This is a number I don't recognise (and I've played Boosey =

and Hawkes clarinets for 40 years). Could you give me an exact
description of the rings on each of the joints? (for example, right at th=
e
end
of the lower joint). If it is a 926 series
(the one Tony Pay said was good, and I play them also) it will
have plain flat rings, without any corrugations. It will also NOT have a
metal ring on the bell. It should also have the number 926 below the cres=
t
if you can read the makers' mark. If it is a 926 or maybe a 10-10
that is a fair price but if it is a different model (8-10 or Edgware) you=

should
beat them down about 50%.

I also have a Buffet (no model number I can find), loaned from a friend. =

It
is a superb instrument, well cared for, 3 years old. My friend paid $220=
0
for it as says she will sell it to me for $1200.

>>> There should be a serial number on the underside of the clarinet
at the bottom of each joint. Someone here might be able to trace that.

Also, this same friend has a clarinet in the key of C. Boy it is a great=

sounding instrument. It doesn't look much different than a Bb, a bit
shorter. Does anyone know if it is possible to adjust a Bb to a C or kno=
w
anything about where to purchase a Key C clarinet?

>>> You cannot adjust a Bb to a C instrument, but several firms sell them=

new.

I really don't know if I want to purchase a Bb, I really would like to ha=
ve
something different. A Base, Eb, or a C. I really liked the sound of the=
C
and I do also like the low sounds of base.

For a soprano clarinet you MUST get the Bb as that is what most of the
music and playing opportunities are for. But you could get a bass - that =
is
a great instrument.
