My point was that hearing loss creeps up on us without realizing it. When
you go to that loud rock concert (or more likely in most of this group, when
you are sitting in the front at a big band show) and your ears are ringing,
it is too late. Damage has occurred. It might not be much, but some has
happened. Over the many years of our life this adds up a lot faster than we
might expect. My feelings are that it is better to be safe than sorry.
Things like tvs, radios, movies, traffic noise, subway noise all can be
really loud. It is not just workplace noise that affects us. Most people
are probably going to end up ok, but why take that chance. A couple hundred
bucks is a small price to pay for something that needs to last you a
lifetime (your hearing).
