Andrew Michael, a trombone-playing seismologist at the U.S. Geological
Survey, is the composer of a quake quartet.
The two minute piece, performed by a cellist, trombonist and vocalist
and earthquake, used speeded up seismic recordings from several 1992
events in Landers, Calif.
"It made a good percussion track" said Stephanie Ross, the composer's
wife and vocalist-seismologist.
