A similar question has come up for my teacher as she is playing the
Copland Concerto in March. What happens if her C# starts to gurgle? =

She is not yet sure what to do. I suggested having someone walk
on-stage, take her clarinet offstage and swab it, and return in second. =

No one would have a clue. :) There has to be an answer for those on
the list who solo regularly. What does one do? Oh yeah, and what if
you want to change REEDS for a certain movement? It seems silly to
sacrifice quality because you don't want to look "unprofessional" for
swabbing, etc. So what do you guys think?
<

I've recently seen excellent professionals (Bil Jackson, Francis Cohen)
swab out during a concerto/recital. I am sure it is accepted as
professional to make sure the thing works right. But make sure it is a
clean, elegant swab. Not a manky smelly old thing that you have to chase
three times round the stage before you catch it.
