I had this happen to me literally 2 weeks after i bought my brand new R-13. I
dropped the bottom joint on a ceramic tile floor, and took a pretty big chip
out of the lower tenon. Boosey' and Hawke's warranty doesnt cover accidental
damage of that nature so i had to oot the bill. To my surprise it wasnt that
bad, My repair man simply filed out the part that i chipped and replaced it
with some sort of something (i dont know what) and it turned out fine, you
would have to search to see where the chip was. Anyway, the point is, he did
not have to put an entirely new tenon on it, and it still turned out fine for
about like 30 or 40 dollars. I dont know what anyone else would charge, and i
dont know how big the chip is. good luck, and im sorry for your student,
there is nothing like buying a "great" instrument and having it do something
like that right off the bat!!!!
