My first thought is to just blow it out (raise the c#/g# key and blow air
through it to clear the spit, etc.) but I had thought just about everyone
who plays clarinet knows that trick, and I would certainly assume your
teacher has been playing for more than a year or so... so either this is WAY
above me, or you are just asking whether or not that would be appropriate...
personally I think it would be.. but then again, I am a mere high schooler..
not really been in any bit concerts (I am in our youth symphony, however...
but I doubt that compares to the real thing)

hmmmm...
A similar question has come up for my teacher as she is playing the
Copland Concerto in March. What happens if her C# starts to gurgle?
She is not yet sure what to do. I suggested having someone walk
on-stage, take her clarinet offstage and swab it, and return in second.
No one would have a clue. :) There has to be an answer for those on
the list who solo regularly. What does one do? Oh yeah, and what if
you want to change REEDS for a certain movement? It seems silly to
sacrifice quality because you don't want to look "unprofessional" for
swabbing, etc. So what do you guys think?
