Klarinet Archive - Posting 000700.txt from 2000/02
From: Stephen Heinemann <sjh@-----.edu> Subj: [kl] A note or two of thanks Date: Wed, 16 Feb 2000 19:11:57 -0500
I'll be unsubscribing in a week or so until midsummer and leaving for an
extended research stay in Basel, Switzerland, but wanted to un-lurk
briefly to extend thanks to Tony, David, David, Dan, Walter, Lelia, that
stupid cat, and (almost) everyone else who contributes to this list. Of
the four listservs I receive, this is the most consistently informative,
wide-ranging, free-wheeling, multi-leveled, funny, exasperating, and
valuable. I especially thank Mark Charette, without whom the list might
be possible but couldn't be as strong.
In the absence of personal wisdom, I offer two thoughts culled from this
week's Cryptoquote:
"If I have seen farther than others, it is because I was standing on the
shoulders of giants."
--Isaac Newton
"If I have not seen as far as others, it is because giants were standing
on my shoulders."
--Hal Abelson
Regards to all.

P.S. From klarinet of a week or so ago, in the "Talking Voice Teacher
Doll" post:
> If you are accepted into a doll's studio, we will send you an order
> form. If not, we will send you a brochure of our other fine products,
> like Talking Violist Doll or Talking Music Theory Professor Doll
> (comes with overhead projector).
OK, I'll bite: What characterizes the Talking Music Theory Professor
Doll?
