I performed such a trio a long time ago with mezzo and piano which made a
nice pairing with the Mozart Parto Parto, though at this time, I can't
remember the title. What I do remember is that Schubert wanted to be
remembered most as an opera composer. This particular piece is an excerpt
from one of his operas. The sheet music contained a foreword with a
description of the scene that immediantely preceded the song. From this
description, it appears that history placed his greatness in the right place.
(In other words, it was pretty horrible drama!) If I find the music in my
stacks, I'll let you know the title.
