In all of the very scholarly discussion of microphones and microphone
technology, I think I have only seen one message in which the word "cardioid"
was spelled correctly. The word has four vowels, three of them consecutive.
Here's a mnemonic device to help. The word means heart-shaped. Cardi-, for
heart, as in "cardiac arrest", and -oid, meaning shaped like, as in "spheroid".
