[Buckman, Nancy] Concerning the C# - the height of the pad over the
tone hole is possibly the problem. This is something for a competent repair
person to do. If the height is changed then the pad has to be reseated. As
far as this list is concerned, the subject of breaking in a new instrument
causes a flurry of activity. Everyone has a different opinion on this
subject. Personally, I think five minutes a day as an increase is
reasonable. My own R-13's are like iron and stood up to much abuse. My new
Patricola's, on the other hand, are very sensitive to changes in humidity.
Consequently, I have had to resort to Damp-Its to counteract the shrinking
and swelling of the instruments. They must also be played every day or they
don't retain enough moisture to maintain good pad seating. Pay close
attention to your instrument's personality and you will more than likely
make the right decision concerning its care.
