Oh, what a loaded question... This is like asking "What is better for
cleaning a house, a mop or feather duster?" They both work and have
completely different uses.

There are several different "flavors" of each and they all have their own
sound. AKG's modern condenser microphones are all pretty bright mics. If
you aren't careful with them, you'll get a pretty brittle sounding
recording. With that said, I have used both numerous times.

If you are thinking of buying them, I'd suggest other microphones in the
same price range (some of the new Neumann mics). If you must get a 414, get
a 414 TLII, not the BULS. It will run an extra $75/each, but you have a
much mellower sound. The nice thing about the 414 is that it has multiple
patterns and is therefore quite versatile. The 460 costs half as much and
you need to switch capsules to get your different patterns.

The whole thing about recording and microphones is that it is all a lie.
You just need to learn how to manipulate that lie and use each mic's lie to
your advantage. Other than this, I don't know what else I can really say.
