David - How can I get this to sound better on my computer? Even when
you play Chopin, the piano sounds like a harpsichord when it comes out
of my computer speakers. I am willing to invest in better speakers.
What kind should I buy and will this improve things significantly?

Depends on if you streamed it in lo-fi or not. The lo-fi will change the
tone a lot, as it is only in 24 kbps. (That is almost like AM radio with a
bad antenna, makes a 13,500 k MP3 into only 2,400 k). If you have cable
modem, and listen at hi-fi, should be pretty accurate. Should sound like a
Steinway 9 ft. Piano. Download my Chopin Etude, short file, and you can
gauge the sound with that one.
You could buy for your computer the Cambridge soundworks $50 speakers that
have 2 small speakers, and a subwofer. I have my Computer hooked up to my
Stereo, and to the Cambridge speakers. I got them at Staples. The CD of the
Chopin sounds great, as well as the downloaded version. Even with bad
speakers, it will sound better then at lo-fi. It is not your soundcard
much, as the tone is generated from the soundfile, not like playing a midi
on your computer which often ends up sounding like a cosco organ.
I tried recording my Clarinet with one of my Accompaniments for the Rach.
Vocalise. My microphone, and not having a mixer ended up making me sound
more like a kazoo playing along with a banjo. But not anymore -
I went out yesterday, and bought an AT4033a/SM Audio-Technica Cardioid
Capacitor Microphone ($$), and a mixer (not Bens $$$$ equipment, but good
for me....) Oh, the fun I will soon have. Almost 30,000 listens, visits,
downloads, etc. just since Feb 1, and now I can record live Clarinet.
Any requests? :)
